Top Flite XL 7000- The 18 Piece Complete Irons Set
For Low-Mid Handicappers- Callaway RAZR X Tour Irons
Unlike the standard RAZR X Irons which aim to improve your game, the tour model Callaway RAZR X Tour Irons are mianly engineered for mid-high handicappers. The RAZR Technology has once again played an important role, providing the optimal balance of distance, accuracy and feel, with Tour-inspired styling.
Look and Feel
The tour irons look silimar to the standard model, but in a more compact head with less offset, a thinner top line and a longer hosel. The sole design is also thinner and the toe portion of the club smaller to give what Callaway claim is more consistent distance control and accuracy. The feel and sound are great and you rarely feel you've hit a thin shot.
Design
The RAZR X Tour feature RAZR technology which repositions the center of gravity to enhance playability and improve turf interaction, resulting in the forgiveness of a wide-sole iron without sacrificing the playability of a thin-sole iron. There's less offset in the RAZR X Tour when compared with the RAZR X Irons, but once again, because the CG has been driven so low and deep, Callaway strengthened the lofts of the RAZR X Tours.
The new VFT Power System precisely positions the center of gravity and maximizes ball speed throughout the set. Its compact head shape and reduced offset with a thinner topline produces the aesthetics and the shot-shaping workability that better players prefer.
Besides, the same RAZR weight system can also be found in the new RAZR X Tour Irons. "What we've done is maintain the narrower sole width, which better players tend to prefer." Williams says. "But by repositioning the weight in the cavity lower and deeper in the iron we've been able to drive the center of gravity lower and deeper." However, in the Tour model, the re-positioned RAZR weight is smaller.
Performance
The trajectory is what you would expect from these shafts. The ball gets up nicely with no ballooning. With the new 2011 groove specs they seem to spin the ball well. I hit a lot of shots with the AW which is 50* more like a PW. Anyway, the TM AW I had with graphite spun the ball very well. I'll have to see how this one is on the course. On the range I could get them to stick, seems to spin OK. My normal ball flight is straight and these went right at the flag.
Conclusion
Generally, I hope someone gets something out of this, and I know there's a lot of great stuff this year, so this desicion was very hard, but not rushed at all. Take your time, and find one that suits you. If you are low-mid handicap players, put the RAZR X Tour Iron Set to your test.
